What it is for
Domains is where your web addresses live, like yourbusiness.com. Buy a new one or connect one you already own, and Scale sets up your website and email records.
What it does best
It does the technical part. Privacy protection is free, transfer lock is on, and the records for Mail and Sites are added for you.
Common tasks
Check if a name is free
- Open Domains and search a name. Short, easy to spell and easy to say on the phone works best.
- Availability is checked with the registries.
Buy a domain
- Pick an available name and choose Buy. You see the price first.
- It is registered in your business name. The domain is yours.
- It renews every year until you turn off auto renew in Domains.
Connect a domain you own
- Type the domain and pick where it is registered.
- Add the records Scale shows. Your website keeps working; only the records you choose change.
Edit DNS records
- Open the domain and choose DNS.
- Add or change records. Save, and changes usually take effect within an hour.
Today and at launch
Works today
- Real availability checks with the registries.
- Domain prices shown in the preview.
At launch
- Buying and renewing domains. Today nothing is charged or registered.
- Moving a domain to Scale, and DNS editing on domains you buy.
Good to know
- Domains are registered through our registrar partner, and you also agree to its registration agreement. See the Terms, section 13.
- Expiration notices go out by email 30 days and 5 days before a domain expires, and 3 days after.
- Domain fees are not refundable once a registration or renewal is submitted. Founder pricing does not apply to domains.
How it connects
Your domain carries your email in Mail and your website in Sites. Domain charges are added to your Scale bill.
